Dr. Berna Uygur joined CTEP's Regulatory Affairs Branch as a Technology Transfer and Patent Specialist in 2022. Dr. Uygur is responsible for reviewing and negotiating a variety of technology transfer agreements and works closely with intramural researchers as well as outside collaborators including pharmaceutical companies and universities.

Before joining CTEP, Dr. Uygur worked in the Department of Research Programs of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) as Technology Transfer and Patent Specialist and at National Cancer Institute Technology Transfer Center (NCI TTC) as Technology Transfer Manager. In these positions, Dr. Uygur was responsible for handling various technology transfer agreements including CRADAs, licensing agreements, MTAs, and CDAs. Dr. Uygur has also worked in industry and academic research settings.

Dr. Uygur earned her doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maine with expertise in prostate cancer after obtaining her master's degree in applied medical science from the University of Southern Maine. Dr. Uygur completed her postdoctoral training at NIH, focusing on prostate cancer research. She also attained master's and bachelor's degrees in engineering. Dr. Uygur completed the Advanced Studies in Technology Transfer Program at the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences and has published peer reviewed articles in both cancer research and the technology transfer field.
