
Christophe Marchand, Ph.D.
Dr. Marchand earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology in 1997 from the University of Paris, Pierre & Marie Curie, where he specialized in gene therapy through DNA triple helix formation. In 1998, he joined the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology at the NCI as a Visiting Fellow and was appointed Staff Scientist in 2006. In 2014, he was promoted to NIH Associate Scientist in the intramural Developmental Therapeutics Branch. In 2016, Dr. Marchand became a Health Scientist Administrator at the Center for Research Strategy within the Office of the Director at the NCI. In 2022, he joined the Developmental Therapeutics Program within the Extramural Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis to serve as the Deputy Associate Director. Throughout his 25 years of bench work, Dr. Marchand has co-authored 117 peer-reviewed publications and has been an inventor on 24 patents. He has received three NCI Director’s Innovation Awards, one NCI Director’s Award of Merit, and sixteen Federal Technology Transfer Awards for his development of new classes of antiviral and anticancer drugs. He has also secured a competitive NIH R03 grant for a trans-NIH high-throughput screening initiative. From 2011 to 2016, Dr. Marchand led the Professional Development Committee of the NCI Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians Organization and has been actively involved in capacity building at the institute level ever since.
