Available Reagents and Materials for Researchers
NCI provides the extramural community access to a variety of reagents and materials for research studies. These resources span the pipeline of anti-cancer therapeutic development from preclinical research through clinical trials.
Reagents and Materials
-
NCI Formulary
U.S. investigators can use the NCI Formulary to rapidly access agents for cancer preclinical studies, and NCI-funded investigators can access it for clinical trials.
-
Validated and Characterized Antibodies
DCTD offers validated antibodies and SOPs for biomarker assays to investigators to conduct cancer research.
-
NCI's Patient-Derived Models Repository (PDMR)
A repository of patient-derived models of cancer including patient-derived xenografts, cell cultures, organoids, and cancer-associated fibroblasts across a wide range of tumor histologies for academic and commercial researchers.
Additional Reagents and Materials
-
Repository of Chemical Agents — Small Molecules and Purified Natural Products
NCI maintains a repository of synthetic and naturally derived compounds that are available to investigators for preclinical research purposes. The repository collection is a uniquely diverse set of more than 200,000 compounds that have been either submitted to the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) for biological evaluation or, in some cases, synthesized under DTP auspices.
-
Repository of Natural Products
DTP’s Natural Products Repository is the world’s largest storehouse of natural products. It houses ~ 200,000 extracts and plated aliquots of >500,000 partially purified fractions from more than 70,000 plants and 10,000 marine organisms collected from more than 25 countries, plus more than 30,000 extracts of diverse fungi and bacteria. The Natural Products Repository, administered by the Natural Products Branch, provides extramural researchers with natural products extracts and partially-purified fractions for testing against any human disease.
-
Repository of Biological Products — including Monoclonal Antibodies and Cytokines
This NCI-sponsored repository stores cytokines, monoclonal antibodies, and other biologic reagents under carefully controlled conditions to ensure a uniform supply of high-quality reagents. Extramural investigators may request these biologic products for use in preclinical research.
-
Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) Tumor Repository
NCI maintains a low temperature repository of implantable in vivo-derived tumors and in vitro-established tumor cell lines from various species, which are available to qualified investigators as a service to the cancer research community. The DCTD Tumor Repository serves as a resource for viable, pathogen-screened experimental tumor lines, many of which are not available elsewhere. These materials are of guinea pig, hamster, human, mouse, rabbit, or rat origin, and have a variety of tumor histologies. The repository also has canine specimens (paraffin blocks, tissue slides, flash frozen tissue, blood, etc.) from both normal tissues and tumors.
-
Antibody Portal
The Antibody Portal serves as an NCI community resource for standardized, renewable affinity reagents (to cancer-associated targets) and accompanying characterization data.
-
Human Tissue Specimens
NCI supports programs that collect and distribute high-quality, human biospecimens and associated data to the research community.
