Yuri Kotliarov, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Yuri Kotliarov is a Computations Biologist in the Computational and Systems Biology Branch of the Biometric Research Program (BRP/DCTD). He supports multiple projects analyzing genomic and proteomic data related to drug combination response in cancer models and plays an active role in high-dimensional data analysis for several key NCI-led projects. His interests include single-cell composition of cancer in human patients and patient-derived mouse models and machine learning for cancer outcome predictions.
Before joining BRP, Dr. Kotliarov was a Staff Scientist (2011-2019) in the Trans-NIH Center for Human Immunology (CHI), where he contributed to basic and translational studies of human immunology. His work supported CHI-led and collaborative NIH studies focused on understanding immune system functions, immune response mechanisms, and autoimmune chronic diseases, such as lupus and pulmonary fibrosis.
From 2003 to 2011, Dr. Kotliarov was a Research Fellow in the Neuro-Oncology Branch (NOB/NCI) leading bioinformatics analysis in cancer genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data from brain tumor patients. He was one of the developers of REMBRANDT (Repository for Molecular BRAin Neoplasia DaTa) informational portal, overseeing the data quality, database structure and user interface. The REMBRANDT was recognized by Service to America Medal in 2005 and served as a predecessor of TCGA project.
Dr. Kotliarov received his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. His research has resulted in over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Cell, Nature Medicine, Immunity, and Cancer Cell.
