DCTD Programs
Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the National Cancer Act:
Impact of the Developmental Therapeutics Program
Congress created the Cancer Chemotherapy National Service Center in 1955, which evolved, both structurally and functionally, into today’s Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP). DTP’s involvement in the discovery or development of many anticancer therapeutics on the market today demonstrates its indelible impact on efforts to improve the health and well-being of people with cancer.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the National Cancer Act, we would like to highlight DTP’s involvement in developing the following approved cancer treatments over the last 60+ years.

DTP facilitates the discovery and preclinical development of novel therapeutic agents by providing services, resources, and leadership to the academic and private-sector research communities worldwide. DTP manages a large research grant portfolio and provides publicly available research resources for the generation of preclinical information materials, including vialed and plated compounds, tumor cells, cell extracts, natural products extracts and compounds, and bulk and formulated drugs necessary to support Investigational New Drug (IND)-directed studies.
