It also has the unique ability to support preclinical and clinical research for cancers that affect people of all ages, including in rare diseases and areas overlooked by the private sector.

DCTD's Impact in the Fight Against Cancer
DCTD helps turn discoveries into treatments for people with cancer, who contribute to future drug development by participating in clinical trials.

Diagnosis: Support the collection and use of bio specimens to improve our understanding of tumor biology, development diagnostic tools, and monitor treatment efficacy.
Therapeutics: Provide services and resources to discover, develop, and improve cancer treatments.
Clinical Trials: Support research to bring basic science knowledge to the design, conduct, and monitoring of clinical trials.

How DCTD Achieves Its Mission
Research Funding: In FY2024, DCTD supported: 2,539 grants to 3,935 researchers in 48 states
Research Resources: Contracts and services support the scientific community, like bio specimens for research, patient-derived xenografts, human cell line screens, and compound repositories.

Clinical Trials Networks: DCTD staff directly support and oversee phase 1, 2, and 3 clinical trials through clinical trials networks. 
380+ cancer treatment clinical trials actively recruiting participants annually.
13,000 to 17,000 participants annually
Virtual Clinical Trials Office provides remote support for multiple clinical sites to enroll patients to clinical trials faster
DCTD also supports more than 200 clinical trials through grants to investigators.
